Agent Mode in Word is a way to work with Microsoft 365 Copilot directly inside your Word documents so it can help you edit and format content in place. Instead of just generating new text, you describe your goal in natural language, and Agent Mode works alongside you to:

• Rewrite existing sections
• Add new content where you need it
• Adjust formatting and layout
• Make other targeted edits directly in the document

Think of it as a collaborative assistant that helps you reimagine and refine your document, based on the instructions you provide.

Agent Mode in Word is designed to respond to clear goals you describe in your own words. You can ask it to:

• Rewrite paragraphs to improve clarity or adjust tone
• Add new sections, examples, or explanations
• Format headings, lists, and other elements for consistency
• Refine specific parts of the document without changing everything

Because it works directly in the document, you see the changes in context and can quickly accept, adjust, or undo them as needed.

Agent Mode in Word is currently available through Microsoft’s Frontier early access program. To try it:

1. Sign up or enroll through the Frontier early access program.
2. Once enabled, open Word as part of your Microsoft 365 experience.
3. Use Copilot in Word and turn on Agent Mode to start describing your editing and formatting goals.

From there, you can begin using Agent Mode to reshape and refine your documents with targeted edits, additions, and formatting support.
